What you can look forward to

This year R2R offers you the inside scoop to learn about working in the film industry! Students will listen in on an electrifying panel discussion with industry insiders, paired with a film screening of Playing Hard. Glimpse into one of the biggest game studios in the world, Ubisoft. VR is back by popular demand, alongside our Behind the Scenes Career Expo, granting you direct access to the schools and companies that can make your dreams a reality. Then stick around for our Youth Filmmaker’s Showcase (YFS) to see some amazing short films made by young people across British Columbia.

Digital Literacy: Inside the Industry

9:45AM-10:30AM

The focus of this year’s YMC is on the how-to’s of working in the film industry. R2R presents the nitty-gritty details of what it takes to enter the film industry, how to network with professionals, where various career opportunities lie, and how to take advantage of them. During this interactive presentation, students will be able to learn the logistics of what it really takes to pursue a future in the film industry.

New Perspectives: Playing Hard

10:30AM & 1:00PM

Encountering a new point of view can be a profound experience. Students apply what they’ve learned during the morning presentation of Digital Literacy, to ideas developed in Playing Hard, a rousing documentary which follows a video game studio as a team attempts to produce and publish a highly anticipated video game.

Behind the Scenes Career Expo & VR Domain

10:30AM & 1:00PM

Breakthrough the fourth wall and discover the multitude of career opportunities that await. Students will speak one-on-one with industry reps, post-secondary recruiters, unions and guilds, and other professionals about career planning in Vancouver’s flourishing film, television, and media industries. Be sure to check out our VR-Domain. World class immersive experiences will be showcased during the conference. Let’s get virtual!

Youth Filmmakers Showcase 

4:00PM- 6:00PM

Celebrating 11 years, YFS spotlights the storytelling skills of emerging talent in BC. Ranging from the political to the personal, this program is sure to inspire students to pick up a camera. This screening is followed by an award presentation, adjudicated by industry professionals. Some of the prizes include: Gear Base camera rental package, Young Moviemakers’ acting and video production program at SFU, and a gift certificate to Annex Pro. There’s also an audience award for the most popular film. Only those in attendance are eligible to vote. Please contact us to reserve a spot!

HOW TO REGISTER

Tickets are $10 a student. Pre-registration is required.

Students attending the 11:00AM panel/screening will participate in the Expo at 1:00 PM. Students participating in the Expo at 11:00AM will attend the panel/screening at 1:00PM.

The Behind the Scenes Career Expo is open to the public between 3:00PM – 4:00PM, students registered for the conference are welcome to stay for our Youth Filmmaker’s Showcase (4:00PM – 6:00PM). Student attendance to YFS is optional and by pre-registration only. YFS is also open to the public and additional tickets can be purchased separately.

Please note: R2R requires a minimum of two weeks notice in order to cancel your registration and offer a full refund, this applies to all school groups and individual registrations.
